Inhouse product
A metal or glass edge on a toy can look harmless until a child runs a finger along it. The Sharp Edge Tester applies a calibrated force to a rotating mandrel wrapped in PTFE tape, then checks whether the tape has been cut. This Sharp Edge Tester is built for toy manufacturers, third-party safety laboratories, and quality inspection departments that need repeatable pass/fail results aligned with EN 71-1, ASTM F963, and ISO 8124-1.
The Sharp Edge Tester is supplied as a single model, GT-MB01, with the mandrel assembly, calibration device, and foot switch configured as a complete benchtop test station.

The Sharp Edge Tester uses a photoelectric induction system to hold the test force at 1.35 lb throughout the rotation. You are not pressing down by hand and hoping the pressure stays consistent. The external adjustment function lets you match the actual force to the displayed value, so calibration stays accurate between checks .
A 1.35 lb calibration device ships with the unit. You can verify and adjust the test force at any time without sending the instrument out or sourcing a separate calibration weight. For a lab running frequent incoming inspections, this keeps the tester in service rather than in a calibration queue.
The mandrel measures 9.53 ± 0.12 mm and is hardened to ≥40 HR. The surface is smooth, and the tangent speed at 75% rotation holds 1.00 ± 0.08 inches per second. The geometry matches the method, so the tape cut result reflects the edge being tested rather than a worn or out-of-spec mandrel.
The test uses pressure-sensitive PTFE (TFE) high-temperature electrical insulation tape. After the mandrel rotates against the edge, the operator inspects the tape for cuts. No force curves or software interpretation are needed. The edge either cuts the tape or it does not.

Struggling to apply the same 1.35 lb force across different operators?
The photoelectric induction system holds the force constant throughout the rotation. Operators do not press down manually or judge whether the pressure matches the standard.
Concerned about force drift between calibration cycles?
The included 1.35 lb calibration device lets you verify the force on the spot. The external adjustment function lets you bring the actual force back in line with the displayed value without opening the housing.
Tired of mandrels that wear and change the test geometry?
The hardened steel mandrel holds its 9.53 mm diameter and ≥40 HR hardness. The tangent speed stays within 1.00 ± 0.08 inches per second, so the test conditions remain consistent across runs.
Need a result that a supplier or regulator can accept without interpretation?
The PTFE tape shows a physical cut or no cut. The test method follows EN 71-1, ASTM F963, and ISO 8124-1. The operator records the outcome, and the inspection is complete.
We provide a 1-year manufacturer's warranty covering parts and labor. Technical support, installation assistance, and operational training are also available. Replacement parts and consumables are available throughout the product's service life.
