Inhouse product
The P3000 is a benchtop polarimeter from A.KRÜSS Optronic, built for standard measurements where ±0.01° accuracy is sufficient. Measurements complete in one to two seconds after temperature equalisation, and results appear either as optical angle of rotation or in the ICUMSA international sugar scale. The 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen runs menu-guided automatic adjustment, and ICUMSA temperature compensation lets you measure at any temperature and read the value converted to 20 °C. The specifications below cover the standard unit; measurement tubes, quartz control plates, and the circulation thermostat are ordered separately.

Pre-installation Requirement:
Place the instrument on a rigid, level bench with clearance for the 220 mm tube length and access to the touchscreen. Connect to a grounded power supply within the 110–250 VAC range. Allow the unit to reach ambient temperature before first use if it has been stored in a colder environment. Perform the automatic adjustment with a certified quartz control plate before the first measurement. For measurements requiring active temperature control, install the circulation thermostat, sample chamber bushing, and temperature-controlled tube before the first run.
Not every polarimetry application needs method management and multi-user access. Many need a reliable optical rotation reading, a sugar scale value, and a fast answer that conforms to the pharmacopoeias and ICUMSA. The P3000 polarimeter was built for exactly that profile: ±0.01° accuracy, one to two second measurement, and a touchscreen that walks you through adjustment without a manual.
The optical density limit of 3.0 matters more than it looks. Dark or turbid samples that would stop a lower-spec instrument still measure on the P3000, and the 220 mm maximum tube length covers the standard tube sizes used in sugar and pharmaceutical work. ICUMSA temperature compensation is pre-installed, so a sample measured warm still reports the value converted to 20 °C.
For buyers sourcing through OS4U, the configuration questions are tube length and volume, whether quartz control plates are needed for your calibration schedule, and whether active temperature control belongs in your method. The KRÜSS P3000 page lists the full accessory range.
The P3000 laboratory polarimeter completes a measurement in one to two seconds after temperature equalisation, with ±0.01° accuracy on optical rotation and ±0.01 °Z on the sugar scale. For a QC lab running repeated checks, the time saved across a shift is real.
Optical rotation in degrees and the ICUMSA international sugar scale in °Z are both available, with resolution to 0.01 in each. Sugar industry samples and pharmaceutical samples can share the same instrument without a scale conversion step.
ICUMSA compensation is pre-installed, so a sample measured at any temperature reports the value converted to 20 °C. Temperature measurement resolves to 0.1 °C with ±0.1 °C accuracy.
Measurement works up to optical density 3.0, with sample permeability above 0.1 %. Samples that would stall a lower-spec polarimeter still produce a reading.
Menu-guided automatic adjustment runs from the 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen. Operators do not need to memorise a sequence; the instrument leads.
Sample contact parts are borosilicate glass, PTFE, and stainless steel (1.4305). These materials suit the cleaning and compatibility requirements of pharmacopoeia and food applications.
The P3000 references USP, BP, JP, and Ph. Eur. (with temperature control), along with GLP, ASTM, ICUMSA, and NIST. Method documentation does not need a separate justification for the instrument.
Struggling with measurements that take longer than the sample prep? One to two seconds per measurement after temperature equalisation. The instrument is not the bottleneck.
Getting readings on dark or turbid samples that fail on other instruments? The P3000 measures up to optical density 3.0, with sample permeability above 0.1 %.
Losing accuracy when the sample is not at 20 °C? ICUMSA temperature compensation reports the value converted to 20 °C, and temperature measurement resolves to 0.1 °C.
Needing both optical rotation and sugar scale results? Both scales are available on the same instrument at 0.01 resolution, so sugar and pharmaceutical samples share one device.
Worried about adjustment consistency between operators? Automatic menu-driven adjustment walks the operator through the sequence. Combined with certified quartz control plates, the adjustment is documented and repeatable.
Needing to document results? Results can be printed on a serial ASCII printer via RS-232, and the factory calibration certificate supports the instrument's traceability.
