Inhouse product
The Impactor Genie IG 200i is a two-in-one automated preparation and recovery system for cascade impactor workflows from Copley Scientific. It combines the impaction surface coating function of the Impactor Coater IC 200i with the drug recovery function of the Gentle Rocker GR 200i in a single benchtop unit. The IG 200i extends semi-automation from the Next Generation Impactor to the Andersen Cascade Impactor collection plates, covering both formats in one instrument. Mode changes take as little as 30 seconds without tools. The specifications below cover the standard unit.

Pre-installation Requirement:
Place the IG 200i on a level bench with clearance for the 590 x 320 mm footprint and access to all four sides, since the unit converts between coating and rocking modes. Position the pump where its tubing can reach the main unit without kinking. Connect the unit by USB A or USB B for data and control, and by RS-232 if Gentle Rocker mode is used with a legacy system. Confirm the Cover Stand is positioned where the covers can be stored without obstructing the working area.
Aerodynamic particle size distribution testing with cascade impactors has two preparation steps that are easy to do badly: coating the impaction surfaces, and recovering the drug from each collection cup or plate. Both steps happen many times per study, both steps have a direct effect on the result, and both are usually done by hand. The IG 200i automated impactor coating and recovery system consolidates the two into one instrument that changes mode in about 30 seconds.
The coating side benefits from consistency. Dispense rate is set from 0 to 100 %, and the dispense and reverse cycle runs from 0 to 10 minutes. The same coating parameters applied to every cup in a study remove the operator-to-operator variation that manual coating introduces. The recovery side benefits from control: agitation at 10–60 RPM with ±1 RPM accuracy, for up to 100 hours or 60,000 revolutions. Gentle rocking is the standard recovery approach for impactor cups because it dissolves the deposited drug without the mechanical stress that would damage the collection surface or introduce artefacts.
Extending semi-automation to the ACI collection plates is the feature that changes workflows in labs that still run Andersen impactors. NGI automation has been available for years; ACI users have largely been doing coating and recovery by hand. The IG 200i covers both formats in one instrument, which means a lab running both impactor types does not need two systems or two sets of procedures.
For buyers sourcing through OS4U, the configuration questions are whether the covers are included in the selected package, whether additional Cover Stand attachment holders are needed for your bench layout, and how the IG 200i integrates with your existing NGI or ACI workflow. The Copley Scientific IG 200i product page lists the current configuration options.
The IG 200i automated impactor coating and recovery system combines the coating function of the Impactor Coater IC 200i with the recovery function of the Gentle Rocker GR 200i. One benchtop unit replaces two separate instruments, which saves bench space and eliminates the transfer step between coating and recovery.
Switching between coating and rocking modes takes as little as 30 seconds without tools. In a study that alternates between coating new cups and recovering from finished plates, that short changeover keeps the workflow moving.
Dispense rate from 0 to 100 % and dispense-and-reverse cycle from 0 to 10 minutes are set digitally. The same parameters applied to every cup in a study remove the operator variation that manual coating introduces.
Gentle rocking at 10–60 RPM with ±1 RPM accuracy dissolves the deposited drug without the mechanical stress of higher-energy recovery methods. The up-to-100-hour run time covers the extended recovery periods some methods require.
NGI collection cups and ACI collection plates are both compatible. The IG 200i extends semi-automation to ACI users who have largely been doing coating and recovery by hand.
The included Cover Stand stores the Dust Cover, Impactor Coater Cover, and Low Evaporation Cover when not in use. Additional attachment holders can be added if the bench layout requires them.
USB A and USB B interfaces support data and control. RS-232 is available for Gentle Rocker mode integration with legacy systems.
Struggling with inconsistent manual coating across cups? Dispense rate and cycle time are set digitally and applied identically to every cup in the study. The coating parameter does not depend on how an operator dispensed by hand.
Losing time to two separate instruments? The IG 200i combines coating and recovery in one unit that changes mode in about 30 seconds. The transfer between instruments is eliminated, and the bench space is halved.
Running ACI plates without the automation available for NGI? The IG 200i is compatible with both NGI cups and ACI plates. Semi-automation extends to ACI workflows that have largely been manual.
Worried about recovery damaging the deposited drug? Gentle rocking at 10–60 RPM with ±1 RPM accuracy dissolves the drug without mechanical stress. The extended run time up to 100 hours covers methods that require long recovery periods.
Needing to store covers and attachments without cluttering the bench? The included Cover Stand stores the Dust Cover, Impactor Coater Cover, and Low Evaporation Cover. Additional attachment holders are available.
Running both NGI and ACI in the same lab? One instrument covers both impactor formats. A lab that runs both does not need two systems or two sets of procedures.
